13. Third down and long!
It took 13 attempts until they got just what they wanted, when filming the football players during the opening sequence. That’s why one of the Astoria High School receivers jumps up after being tackled and is already covered in mud. Another interesting fact is that each of the players had to sign forms to stop from being credited and paid for their time behind the camera. If they would have been credited and received payment, they wouldn’t have been able to play college football later on. Fun to know that the player who was tackled went on to have an illustrious college football career.
14. High Anxiety!
t’s a great scene, where Chunk accidentally breaks the water cooler bottle. As he attempts to save the day, he says ‘I got it! I got it!…I don’t got it,’ this is a nod to the film High Anxiety. Bet you didn’t know that!
15. That’s MAD!
At his house, Mikey looks through a stash of MAD Magazines. These three magazines span 1969-1984. It would be pretty surprising to have such a wide range of magazines for kids just lying around the house. MAD Magazine later went on to spoof the Goonies towards the end of 1985. Fitting!
