4. Beautiful Astoria!
The Goonies was largely filmed in the coastal Oregon town of Astoria. Even though it looks like it takes place somewhere in New England, the quaint Oregon town was chosen. On June 7, 2010 (the 25th anniversary of the release) the mayor of Astoria declared that date annually as ‘Goonies Day.’ Do you think you’ll ever visit Astoria, Oregon on ‘Goonies Day?’
5. Dem’ Bones!
When Mikey finally finds One-Eyed Willy (and all his treasure) towards the end of the film, he’s actually greeted by a skeleton where the skull was not a replica but the real thing!
6. Reporting to work, sir!
Jeff Cohen, who played Chunk, showed up on set with a full-blown case of the chicken pox. Jeff was worried that if he told the production crew the truth and didn’t show up, they would simply replace him so he scratched his way in front of the cameras. In fact, during the ‘Truffle Shuffle’ scene at the beginning, if you pause the film you can see Jeff’s chicken pox marks.
