Originally, ‘Back to the Future’ was banned in China! Indeed, authorities in mainland China felt that time travel ‘disrespected history’ so it was not allowed to be shown in the country. Luckily for the Chinese, the ban has been lifted.
17. When you wish upon a star…keep wishing!
When Robert Zemeckis was shopping ‘Back to the Future’ to the studios, Disney refused to produce it because they thought the idea of a mother being in love with their son (albeit because of time travel) was too risqué. In fact, Disney was the only studio that thought this, and many thought the film didn’t go far enough, compared to a lot of the teen comedies of the day.
18. Whip it good!
As Doc Brown emerges from the DeLorean, he’s wearing a full-blown radiation suit. Marty asks him, ‘is that a Devo suit?,’ which is a reference to the ‘80s band who wore similar attire in their music videos.
