10. Don’t pop!
Remember the trash compactor scene? Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, was forced to hold his breath for such a long time that he broke a blood vessel in his face. That’s why, if you watch the film again, you’ll notice that subsequent shots were all filmed from only one side. Tricky camera work there!
11. Chewie, you stink!
Speaking of the trash compactor, when Chewbacca left the trash, his suit didn’t. The horrid smell of trash stuck with that costume and the other actors had to deal with a stinky Chewie for the rest of filming.
12. Chewie in the buff!
Mark Hamill shared that the studio executives were upset that Chewbacca wasn’t wearing any clothes. In fact, they were so offended they attempted to have the costume redesigned so he had shorts on. Luckily for us, Chewbacca’s iconic look wasn’t altered and we never had to see him in cut offs.
