Did you know that it took 17 years to get Iron Man into development? Many movie studios passed on producing the film, and it wasn’t until Marvel took back the reigns that it was green lit and finally released.
14. War…what is it good for?
In the original comics, Tony Stark becomes Iron Man first after fighting in Vietnam and then later the Gulf War. The director of the film, however, decided to place him in Afghanistan, as he didn’t want it attached to a specific war and turn it into a period piece.
15. History copying art!
When creating the Ultimate Marvel Comics character of Nick Fury, the writers agreed that he needed to be African-American and have a personality similar to Samuel L. Jackson. When the time came to create the film, they decided to go back to Samuel L. Jackson and see if he would play the character on the Silver Screen…because of course, no one else could have pulled off such a role!
